Dr. Tom C. Garven


Dr. Garven is a trained physician, who turned businessman in 1999, when he founded and headed his own company, which was involved in a number of various businesses, including the export import business of Arabica coffee from Malawi to Germany. His company also developed an internet based tourism agency, promoting select destinations in Africa. This enterprise has developed into the present business venture of Africa Tourism, building on previous experiences and contacts. Furthermore, his company was also involved in establishing a music agency, producing and promoting a new trend of music by combining classical music and jazz, as well as 'westernizing' traditional African music. He was personally invovled in medical consulting, translations, intercultural training, and writing articles and news features for the medical and pharmaceutical industry, as well as for the non medical-professional public. 

Since 2003, Dr. Garven has been exclusively pursuing a self-developed project, titled 'Medicine for Africa' (MfA), intended to ameliorate the general health care situation in select sub-Saharan African countries. The project introduced the concept of a Public-Private-Partnership to the donor society. Based on his project, he has travelled extensively throughout Africa and has made contact with a large variety of governments, as well as private corporations in the USA and Europe, which have expressed interest in becoming involved in Africa. MfA has also opened a number of other interests and venture opportunities in Africa along Dr. Garven's major principles of supporting Africa and its development for future health and prosperity.

In addition to serving as Executive Director for Medicine for Africa, he is a Director of the Board and also serves as Chief Executive Officer at New York - African Shared Vision Programs, Inc, a non-profit organization, incorporated in New York. He also holds the position of Chief Operating Officer at GOOD.

Dr. Garven speaks English, French and German fluently.
